Short Stay Visas
Considering the unprecedented time in the UK history, Home Office has announced today (24 March) that Visa nationals who are unable to return to their country because of travel restrictions or self-isolation, will be able to extend their visa until 31 May. This is just an estimated date. This will be under constant review in case any further extensions are needed.
If you or your family members fall within this situation then our dedicated team of expert immigration solicitors will contact the Home Office on your behalf in obtaining an extension for you.
Long Term Stay in the UK
Due to travel restrictions it has left thousands of people to be stranded in the United Kingdom. As a result, if you were required to submit an out of country application, the Home Office has instead temporarily expanded in country switching, so that you can submit an application within the country. You will be able to continue with your life in the United Kingdom.
An example would be if you was to switch routes, such as from Tier 4 (student) to Tier 2 (General Worker), Previously you were required to return to your home country and submit an entry clearance application but now you are able to switch whilst remaining in the UK. The Home Office will maintain their efforts to process applications within their timescales, however due to COVID-19 related operational pressures there could be a slight delay.
Home Secretary Priti Patel stated:
“The UK continues to put the health and wellbeing of people first and nobody will be punished for circumstances outside of their control.
By extending people’s visas, we are giving people peace of mind and also ensuring that those in vital services can continue their work”.
The Home Office confirms that any individual will not be penalised for overstaying as the circumstances are beyond their control, however once the restrictions for travelling are lifted you will be expected to return to your home country.
